Arlindo de Souza — a name that became synonymous with extremes in bodybuilding. His biceps, reaching nearly 75 cm in circumference, made him famous across Brazil. But few wonder what it truly cost him.

Ordinary training and nutrition weren’t enough for such results. Arlindo took a different, risky route — he started injecting a homemade solution of oil and alcohol directly into his muscles.

This was done without medical supervision or any professional procedure. It was a desperate act, driven by the desire to look “massive” at any cost.

The result? Massive risk: infections, tissue necrosis, the possibility of amputation, even death.

And that risk became reality — his close friend Paulinho, also a fan of extreme bodybuilding, died after similar injections. Only then did Arlindo stop.

“I will never do it again. We injected the same stuff. I lived, he didn’t. It was a terrible experience, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” he says today.

Still, the regret doesn’t stop him from enjoying the attention. According to his older brother, women can’t take their eyes off Arlindo wherever he goes. His body draws admiration — though tinged with fear.

But is this what true strength is? When outward appearance matters more than inner health, it’s no longer sport — it’s addiction.

Arlindo’s story is a vivid example of how the desire to conform to imposed standards can destroy a person.

And while he once sought the perfect body, now, in his own words, he’s just glad to be alive.
