Out of all the people I’ve written about, Princess Kalina of Bulgaria might be the most fascinating and unpredictable. Her style over the years has been so diverse, you could create a whole new fashion history based on her looks alone. From hippie and ethnic styles to sharp classic looks, edgy punk, and even futuristic fashion—she’s tried it all.

It’s hard to imagine what journey brought the only daughter of the King of Bulgaria to where she is today. Take a look at these two photos, likely taken just a few months apart, based on the age of her child. And yet, she looks like a completely different person in each one. What changed in such a short time?

But then, the men of the family—especially the sons of Prince Konstantin and Prince Kubrat—are known for their striking looks. Kalina’s husband, meanwhile, seems frozen in time. He looks exactly the same as he did on their wedding day.

In March, the official Bulgarian royal family account congratulated Kalina and her husband on their son’s 15th birthday—with a photo that was clearly taken 15 years ago. A simple oversight? Probably not…
