The sweet Golden Retriever encounters his vet in a pub and completely loses control

Not every dog will leap with delight when they see their vet out in public. But for Cosmo the Golden Retriever, it was like Christmas all over again when he saw his doctor, Dr. Jones, at a brewery.

In an adorable TikTok video, Cosmo is in complete, unadulterated pleasure as he snuggles with an equally happy Dr. Jones, who, given his scrubs, may have just gotten out of work for a quick pint.

Ugh, the sweetness is overwhelming! People in the comments struggled to suppress their secondhand delight.

“He looked over and asked, ‘Mom, do you see who this is?’ One person wrote, while another responded, “What in the Hallmark movie? Adorable!!”

One individual even quipped, “Did we all check the vet’s hand for a wedding ring?” (Said by a married lady. Looking out for everyone, or something.)”

According to Cosmo’s owner, Hannah Dweikat, the two have quite a history. She tells Upworthy that when Cosmo was a puppy, he “gave a scare” after ingesting a Sago Palm seed, which is very dangerous to dogs, from a plant in their backyard, which led to him being sent to the animal hospital and spending the weekend there.

While it is every pet owner’s worst fear and certainly a frightening circumstance for the poor fur baby, Dweikat claims that “the calm and patient demeanor” of Dr. Jones and his colleagues put Cosmo at ease. And as a result, “Cosmo has always loved going to see his friends—especially because they give him many treats and snuggles.”

Cosmo and Dr. Jones’ friendship has also grown as a result of their close proximity, as Dweikat lives only down the street from the clinic. “Which means we get to see Dr. Jones and his staff out in public at times, and Cosmo takes every chance he can get to say hi,” according to her. This time, however, she was able to record everything on camera. Yay for us!

What makes a good veterinarian?

While not every vet, no matter how gifted, will be able to elicit this type of reaction from their patients, having a calming presence like Dr. Jones is certainly something pet owners should look for when shopping around for their own vet. However, this is not the only trait required of a qualified veterinarian. According to Saint Matthews University, a veterinarian must also have high stamina (both physically and mentally), the ability to tolerate unpleasant situations (you cannot faint at the sight of blood or vomit), a high level of emotional intelligence (perhaps all doctors should have this skill, but especially those who work with animals), adaptability, a sense of enthusiasm, and, finally, excellent communication skills.

Dr. Jones appears to possess these qualities in plenty, and his patients plainly like him for it. Cosmo stands out above all. Cosmo seems to like various activities, including toys, fishing, and paw days. He doesn’t enjoy waiting outside for Mom to get her coffee.
